Security alert: fraud attempts in the name of our hotels
Dear Guest,
Your security is our priority. Some guests are receiving fraudulent messages by WhatsApp, SMS or email from people pretending to be our hotels.
What happened
In September 2026, an external technology provider suffered a cyberattack. This provider connects online booking platforms with many hotels in Portugal and abroad. Data from some bookings made through Booking.com was accessed without authorisation. Our own systems were not affected.
What data is involved
Name, email address, phone number, hotel and booking number. No payment card data, passwords or identity documents were affected.
What is the risk
Third parties may use this data to contact you pretending to be the hotel. They may ask for payments or card details, or ask you to click on links.
How to protect yourself
• Our hotels never ask for payments, card details or codes via WhatsApp, SMS or links sent by message.
• Do not make payments, share details or click on links in response to these messages.
• If in doubt about your booking, contact the hotel using the details available on www.viphotels.com or through the Booking.com app.
• If you have already made a payment or shared card details, contact your bank immediately and report it to the police.
What we are doing
The provider has strengthened the security of its systems and is investigating the incident with cybersecurity specialists. We have informed the Portuguese Data Protection Authority (CNPD) and Booking.com, and our teams are ready to help and answer any questions you may have.
Your booking remains valid and you do not need to take any action.
